If you are looking for a top-notch vision practice that can provide you with the very best eye care, you will want to become familiar with our practice, Vision Arts Eyecare Center. Our expert Spokane Washington optometrist is Dr. Monty Smick.
Patients come to see our Spokane Washington optometrist for many different reasons. If you have diabetes, you are probably aware that diabetes can lead to certain vision problems. For this reason, it is especially important that you have periodic diabetic eye exams to make sure that your eyes are remaining healthy. It is most important that you have an annual dilated eye exam so that our doctor can examine the retina. If a patient has consistently elevated levels of sugar in their bloodstream, this can lead to diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy is a group of conditions all of which affect the health of the retina and the blood vessels that surrounded and nourish it. When a patient has elevated blood sugar levels, it can cause the blood vessels at the back of the eye to weaken and begin to leak blood and other fluids into the eye. This can cause serious vision problems, some of which can lead to blindness. It is very important that diabetic patients are closely monitored to make sure that they are not developing this serious eye condition. If our doctor finds that you are developing diabetic retinopathy, he can talk to you about different treatment options that are available. If your vision has become blurred, and you have trouble when attempting to drive at night, it may be that you have developed cataracts. Happily, cataracts can now be completely corrected using laser surgery that is extremely safe and effective. However, if the cataracts can still be corrected with new prescription lenses, our eye doctor can monitor your cataracts for you and let you know when you need to have cataract surgery to permanently improve your vision.
